Culture in Tahara 2026 | A walk in the footsteps of the Jews of Tarnowskie Góry

Culture in Tahara 2026 | A walk in the footsteps of the Jews of Tarnowskie Góry

A walk in the footsteps of Tarnowskie Góry’s Jewish community is a regular and important feature of the ‘Culture in Tahara’ Festival programme. We will begin our walk at Tarnowskie Góry’s Market Square (in front of the Town Hall), before making our way through the streets of the old town to visit places associated with the daily life, activities and memory of our town’s Jewish residents. We will end our walk at the Jewish Cemetery. This is an opportunity for reflection, discovering local history and preserving memory. Anna Gołkowska and Marek Panuś will be our guides through the Jewish heritage of Tarnowskie Góry.

The event is part of the ‘Culture in Tahara’ Festival, dedicated to the culture and heritage of Tarnogórski’s Jewish community and their place in our town’s multicultural history. The festival’s name refers to the former Pre-Burial House (Bejt Tahara) at the Jewish Cemetery in Tarnowskie Góry – a unique place which, despite the passage of time and its current state of preservation, remains an important testament to the history of the Jewish community in Tarnowskie Góry and to the need to protect this heritage and keep its memory alive.

This year’s edition of the Festival, organised by the Gliwicka 66 Association, is supported by the Tarnowskie Góry Municipality and Tarnowskie Góry District, whilst the event’s partners are the Local Tourist Organisation of the Town of Gwarków and the Evangelical-Augsburg Parish in Tarnowskie Góry.

As well as a walk in the footsteps of Tarnowskie Góry’s Jewish community, we also invite you to a talk with Prof. Marcin Majewski (25 August) and a concert by the band Negev (27 August). Admission to all events is free.
