We would like to invite you to Silver Waves, a festival in open water swimming, which will take place on the Nakło Chechło Reservoir on 6 June 2026.

This is already the third edition of this event, which combines professional and amateur sport, brings together people who have fallen in love with swimming and in open-water swimming have found undisguised freedom and pleasure associated with communing with nature, but also with building interpersonal relations and developing sporting passion.

This year's edition is more special, as it is held to celebrate the 500th anniversary of the city of Tarnowskie Góry!

The Silver Waves Festival is an all-day swimming festival consisting of many unique races:
- The competition will start with the Polish Open Water Swimming Cup Grand Prix race, which will also be a qualification for the European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships. The best of the best will come to Tarnowskie Góry to compete for qualification to represent Poland at this important and prestigious event. In addition, the competitors who will compete among seniors for Polish Cup points have also confirmed their participation, which will have a direct impact on the very high level of competition. It will be no secret that the majority of the Polish swimming community is eagerly awaiting this race, as it promises to be one of the most fierce duels in open water swimming in our country in recent years. The competition in this race will take place over a distance of 1 km for younger swimmers and 3 km for swimmers 14 years and older, respectively. In addition, those wishing to qualify for the European Championships will extend the distance covered to 5 km, 7.5 km and 10 km respectively.
- The competition between professionals will also be joined by amateurs. As every year, the organiser has prepared a race under the name "Swim in open waters" in which all amateur swimmers can start at a distance of 1 km. This distance allows anyone who has mastered the art of swimming to take part and aims to popularise open water swimming among all lovers of the sport.
- There will also be shorter races at distances of 500 and 250 m for the youngest swimmers who are just beginning their open water adventure.
- The whole event will be topped off by the 3×500 m relay competition, in which teams of three will compete in the so-called 'Silver Relay'.

Registration for the event is possible until 3 June 2026 via forms available on the zmierzymyczas.pl website or via the link posted in the Facebook event entitled Silver Waves - Open Water Swimming Festival and Grand Prix Cup of Poland.

The competition will start at 09:30 and last until 3pm. A press briefing for incoming media is planned for around 12:30pm.

The Silver Waves open water swimming festival is part of a larger project that has been implemented for many years by the MKS Park Wodny Tarnowskie Góry club and coach Tomasz Pąchalski. These projects, inseparably connected with the silver mined in Tarnowskie Góry, not only show the beauty of the sport of swimming both in the swimming pool and in open waters, but also, or perhaps above all, promote the city of Tarnowskie Góry and the local community, which is an exceptional foundation for the development of sport and leisure time activities in the area of our city and region.

The Silver Waves could not take place without the extensive cooperation between the city of Tarnowskie Góry and the Świerklaniec commune, which have been financially supporting the event from the beginning. Another partner is the Polish Swimming Federation, which is a co-organiser of the entire event .

The organisers of the Silver Waves, as this is an open-water event, first and foremost focus on the safety of the participants in the competition, and such entities as the Tarnogórskie WOPR, the Police and the Bi-Med Clinic are behind the safety.

Noteworthy is also the Tarnogórski Region Lovers' Association, which every year supports us by sending to the competition Tarnogórski Gwareks, who promote the heritage of the region.
Mention should also be made of the Efro spa company, which has been cooperating with Tarnogórski swimmers for years and, as every year, will provide the participants with a bale, which will be filled with warm water and will provide an opportunity to relax after the race.
