"The mining heritage of Tarnowskie Góry" - meeting with Mariusz Gąsior and Rafał Ludwikowski

The meeting will refer to selected contents of the emerging monograph of Tarnowskie Góry related to the history of mining and post-industrial tourism, as well as to the exhibition "The Underground World of Tarnowskie Góry. The map from which much began" and the map of the Tarnowskie Góry underground presented there.

Mariusz Gąsior - a museologist with extensive professional experience. From 2004 to 2018, an employee of the Imperial War Museums (IWM) in London, where he was responsible, among other things, for the development of large photographic collections relating to the First World War and the Polish Armed Forces in the West. From 2018 to 2021, head of the Department of Photography at the Silesian Museum in Katowice. Since 2021, he has been taking care of the collections of the Association of Lovers of the Tarnogórska Region (SMZT). Specialises in historical photography, mainly military, and has recently researched the photographic legacy of Tarnowskie Góry. Co-author of the photo album "Everyday Life of Soldiers of the Polish Armed Forces in the West 1939-1947″, published in 2016 by the Second World War Museum in Gdańsk. One of the curators of the permanent Holocaust exhibition at the IWM. In Silesia, he has prepared two photographic exhibitions at the Silesian Museum, several photographic exhibitions at the Black Trout Adit, and a historical exhibition at the Upper Silesian Land Museum in Ratingen in the Ruhr. Tarnogórz man, social activist, member of the SMZT and head of the Historical Section in the SMZT.

Rafał Ludwikowski - curator in the History Department of the Museum in Tarnowskie Góry. Graduated in history with a specialisation in archaeology at the University of Opole and postgraduate studies in museology at the Jagiellonian University. Participant in the archaeological excavations in Ryczyn carried out by the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław and the University of Opole, author of publications and museum exhibitions on the history of Tarnowskie Góry, including Freemasonry, the visit of John III Sobieski, the period of the Silesian Uprisings and the plebiscite, and World War II.
