Stare Tarnowice: join us in sowing a wildflower meadow!
Over 1,500 metres of wildflower meadows will bloom this spring in the Przyjaźń housing estate. A community sowing event as part of the ‘Zielony Puls Polski’ programme – a nationwide educational and environmental initiative run by the One More Tree Foundation under the patronage of Stellantis Philanthrop – will take place this Thursday, 29 October!
On Thursday 29 October, by the green square near Morcinka Street on the Sielanka Street side, a wildflower meadow sowing event will take place, to which we invite all the city’s residents. Participants will sow two plots with a combined area of over 1,500 ma (559 m² and 964 mn). The event is organised by the One More Tree Foundation as part of the ‘Zielony Puls Polski’ programme, carried out in collaboration with its strategic partner, Stellantis Philanthropy.
Flower meadows are one of the simplest ways to protect biodiversity in the city. They provide food and shelter for bees, bumblebees, butterflies and other pollinators. Furthermore, they retain rainwater better than a lawn and do not require frequent mowing. Sowing in autumn allows the seeds to overwinter in the soil and germinate in spring.
The event will begin at 10.00 am with a gathering – children from Primary Schools 8 and 15 have already confirmed their participation. Following a 20-minute talk on the role of meadows in protecting biodiversity, the foundation’s coordinators will give a demonstration, after which everyone will sow the meadow. The event will last until around 12:00.
No experience is necessary — simply turn up at the event site at 10.00 am wearing waterproof footwear and warm clothing. You can leave your car in the car park by the sports pitch.
