On 30 April, Tarnogórz inhabitants pompously inaugurated the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of their city!

On that day, exactly on the 500th anniversary of the issue of the Miners' Liberty, which is considered to be the symbolic beginning of the town, an event took place on the Market Square that will long be remembered by the inhabitants - and not only those who turned up at the Town Hall. The centrepiece of the birthday musical and photographic happening was the creation of the living number 500.
- We are the creators of this city, so let's all celebrate our common anniversary! - said Arkadiusz Czech, the Mayor of Tarnowskie Góry, welcoming the inhabitants (and not only them) to the Market Square.
Uroczystość wypełniły dźwięki tradycji – przy udziale wszystkich chyba tarnogórskich orkiestr (wspólny koncert zagrała Tarnogórska Orkiestra Dęta, Orkiestra Kamiliańska, Mali Kamilianie, Silesian Brass Quartet, TG Big Band, Orkiestra Parafialna z Bobrownik Śląskich – Piekary Rudne, the Orchestra of the State Music School and Silesian Smyki), choirs played and sang the "Tarnogórski Bell", a song written in 1827 by Rudolph von Carnall.
Before that, children from Kindergarten No. 22 had their five "minutes", performing a song written especially for the city's 500th anniversary (text at bottom of page).
- We can sing like that at every opportunity! - laughed the stage fright-less children.
The start of the official celebrations of the city's jubilee was also the start of the third edition of the #Tour de TG campaign, a challenge for cyclists, who have to cover distances of 1,526 or 500 km for the 500th anniversary, while runners and fans of 'walking sticks' have to run or walk an equal 500 km. As a reward, athletes will receive - as they do every year - T-shirts and bidons. To symbolically start the challenge, the runners and cyclists set off together on the routes.
A moment after the orchestras, choirs, sports clubs, associations and the rest of the inhabitants (there were quite a few of us!) had gathered on the Market Square, the Museum started Tarnogórski Czwartek: "500 years of mining freedom" - lecture by Dr Piotr Śmiea.
