"Symphony of City Sounds" is an interdisciplinary project of the Tarnogórski Cultural Centre, carried out in urban spaces and at the institution, which combines artistic, educational and participatory activities. The undertaking is being created as part of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of Tarnowskie Góry and aims to create a unique urban symphony inspired by the city's soundscape.
The project envisages the active participation of citizens - children, young people, adults and seniors - who, together with Tarnowskie Góry musicians and composers, will become co-creators of the work. The first stage will involve historical-sound walks to selected places in the city, during which participants will learn about their history and record the characteristic sounds of the urban space.
The collected material will become the basis for the composition work. Tarnogórski artists will create a four-part symphony on its basis, combining field recordings with acoustic and electroacoustic instrumentation. The result will be a multi-layered musical work in which the sounds of the city will become an integral part of the composition.
The finale of the project will be a concert at the Tarnogórski Cultural Centre, during which the full symphony will be presented. The entire work will also be recorded and made available in the form of a digital recording and a CD release, creating a lasting record of the musical portrait of the city in the jubilee year.
"Symphony of the Sounds of the City" is a modern form of storytelling about Tarnowskie Góry - combining history, community and art into one shared sonic experience.
As part of the "Symphony of the Sounds of the City" project, we invite residents to take part in unique historical-sound walks, which will become the first stage in the creation of an urban symphony inspired by Tarnowskie Góry.
During the meetings we will jointly discover the history of selected places, but first of all listen to their sounds - record the sounds of the urban space, nature and everyday life. The collected material will become the basis for a professional musical composition, which in the final form of the project will be presented as an artistic portrait of the city.
The first walk will take us around the Tarnogórski railway station - a place with a rich history and a unique sound layer, full of the rhythm of traffic, communication and urban everyday life.
Participation in the walks is free of charge. The meeting in front of the Tarnogórski Cultural Centre is obligatory.
