The Silesia Race is coming up on 26 September! It’s a brilliant opportunity for all lovers of active leisure and orienteering. The event, organised by the “Planeta Przygody” Association and Tarnowskie Góry Town Council, promises to be an unforgettable adventure. The Silesia Race is not just about competition; above all, it aims to promote active leisure and orienteering, as well as showcase the charming landscapes of Tarnowskie Góry and the surrounding area. The event is of a tourist and recreational nature, but those who enjoy a challenge will certainly find something to suit them here. Importantly, the race will go ahead regardless of the weather conditions!

Each participant can tailor the distance and nature of the route to their own abilities. There are as many as four different options to choose from. For beginners and families, the ideal choice will be the tourism and leisure route (10–15 km), available in both the ‘family’ category (where the presence of a child of pre-school or school age is required) and the ‘adult’ category. Teams can consist of multiple people; there will be additional special tasks along the route, and, interestingly, the use of GPS navigation is permitted.

For those who prefer to cover longer distances independently without electronic aids (the use of GPS for navigation is prohibited; only track logging is permitted), the organisers have prepared solo categories: the Walking Route (25 km) and the Cycling Route (50 km). Of course, there’s nothing to stop you from covering these distances in the company of friends. The greatest challenge awaits participants in the Adventure Rally. This is a competition in two-person teams over a distance of 70–80 km, combining a walking and a cycling stage. Teams on this route must check in at the control points as a complete team, and the use of GPS is permitted when competing in the OPEN category.

The aim of the competition is to find as many Checkpoints (CP) as possible in the shortest time. The checkpoints, marked in the terrain with distinctive lanterns or signs and equipped with hole punches, must be validated on a special start card. At some of them, you will encounter marshals; in the case of team and family entries, the entire team must check in with them. It is worth remembering that losing your start card will result in you not being classified, and a track from a watch or mobile phone is not accepted as proof of attendance. You are free to choose your own route between checkpoints (except in areas where this is expressly prohibited, such as private land, forest nurseries or farmland), and on most routes the order in which you pass them does not matter.

The competition will begin early in the morning. The event base opens at 7.00, and the OPEN Adventure Rally will be the first to set off, following the technical briefing – the start is scheduled for 9.00. Half an hour later, participants on the walking and cycling routes will have their briefing, before setting off at 10.00 sharp. Last of all, at 11:00, the tourist and recreational route will set off. The organisers have also set strict time limits: for the recreational route, the cut-off is 15:00, for the 25 km and 50 km routes it is 5.00 pm, whilst teams in the Adventure Rally must check in at the finish line by 9.00 pm. Exceeding the time limit means the team will not be classified, regardless of the number of checkpoints passed.

To ensure the competition runs safely and in accordance with the principles of fair play, equipment requirements have been introduced. Every participant must, without exception, carry identification and a fully charged mobile phone. Cyclists (and Adventure Rally participants) must wear helmets at all times. It is also advisable to carry a first-aid kit, NRC foil and a head torch, especially if you expect to return to base after dark. Your race number must be visible at all times, and competitors are prohibited from accepting assistance from bystanders along the route (apart from visits to shops or catering outlets open to the public) or from using any means of transport other than those specified in the regulations.

Breaching the rules, failing to carry mandatory equipment, entering prohibited areas or failing to complete special tasks may result in severe time penalties (of up to 3 hours).
