Mirosław Gliszczyński is an incredibly inspiring figure. Although he only took up sport seriously after turning sixty, today, aged 70, he impresses with his fitness and remarkable energy. It was he who coined and popularised the term ‘Megahulajka’ in Poland. The term refers to the so-called ‘footbike’ – a sports two-wheeler that combines the features of a scooter and a bicycle, often fitted with a large, even 26-inch, front wheel. Although this type of equipment is still considered a novelty in Poland and is slowly gaining popularity, it is a well-known and extremely popular discipline amongst our Czech neighbours.

Mirosław has five different bikes in his collection, each adapted for a variety of conditions – from roads to light off-road terrain, snow or mud. As an enthusiast, he is keen to share his passion with others, explaining the ins and outs of riding and proving that it’s never too late to take up a regular sport and embrace a vibrant zest for life.

During the competition, participants will compete in a 500-metre sprint and a spectacular 3-person team relay, where each competitor will cover a distance of 2×1,000 metres (the team covers a total of 6,000 metres). Importantly, there is no entry fee for the event, andthe competition is open to everyone – both professionals and amateurs who simply want to try their hand at the mega-scooter. The competition promises to be incredibly exciting – the Czech world champion has confirmed his attendance and will attempt to break the world record over the 500 m distance at the Gwarka Stadium!

Competitors will race on their own scooters, wearing a suitable protective helmet; however, the organiser has a limited number of mega-scooters available for those who request to borrow equipment via email. At the finish line, all daredevils will receive commemorative medals, water and goodies from sponsors, whilst the top competitors in five categories will also be awarded trophies and prizes.
